Hintco boosts funding and extends contract timelines for H2Global tenders

Hamburg, 22 September 2025: Hintco has announced a series of updates across its H2Global tenders that will increase funding, extend timelines, and open new opportunities for RFNBO projects worldwide. These measures build on earlier milestones and support the creation of a global clean fuel market.

“Each stage of the H2Global process has delivered important successes, from securing long-term contracts to building global interest,” said Timo Bollerhey, CEO of Hintco. “The updates announced today build on that progress. They provide predictability for RFNBO suppliers and buyers, align funding and timelines with market needs, and take us another step forward in creating and scaling the global clean hydrogen market.”

Global Lot advances with greater flexibility

The joint Global Lot, funded by Germany and the Netherlands and focused on RFNBO hydrogen, has successfully completed its Public Release Phase and is moving into the Application Phase. Companies will soon be able to submit Requests to Participate, with details to be published in the Official Journal of the EU (TED).

Germany and the Netherlands have also agreed to apply greater flexibility to the funding periods. Germany plans to begin its ten-year funding period in 2032 with EUR 300 million, subject to final approval in December 2025. The Netherlands has set its funding period for 2028–2036, with any future adjustments to follow established procedures. These steps underline Europe’s role in building global RFNBO markets.

Regional lots move ahead

The application phase for the regional lots was successfully completed on 12 September, and Hintco is now reviewing applications. Those meeting the eligibility criteria will proceed to the negotiation phase, where contract outlines will be finalised as the basis for bidding.

Higher funding and extended timelines for regional lots

The four regional lots in the second H2Global auction, focused on RFNBOs (ammonia, methanol or hydrogen), will benefit from higher funding and longer contract periods. Following adoption of Germany’s federal budget for 2025 on 18 September by the German federal parliament (Bundestag), annual funding of EUR 58 million is earmarked for ten years (2028–2037). This will increase the total funding per lot from EUR 484 million to EUR 580 million.
The latter sum was originally planned. Due to the postponement of funds to the years from 2027 onwards and the delay in the adoption of the 2025 budget, Hintco was temporarily unable to commit to the full amount.
The draft 2026 budget foresees a further one-year shift in the funding period (2029–2038), with the parliamentary process expected to conclude in December 2025.

Renewable methanol lot reopens

Lot 2 (RFNBO methanol) of the pilot H2Global window will reopen for new applications, backed by EUR 437.5 million. This relaunch allows for broader participation, including projects that were not sufficiently advanced during the pilot phase.
